Negative Ions
Negative ions are negatively charged particles, formed when enough energy acts on a molecule such as oxygen and water, to eject an electron. The displaced electron then attaches itself to a nearby molecule, which becomes a negative ion. The original molecule is left as a positive ion.
'Vitamins of the Air'
Negative ions are created in nature as air molecules break apart due to sunlight, crashing surf or waterfalls. They are also generated by the movement of air, such as an icy breeze or lightning storm. They serve a useful purpose by filtering the air of dust, pollen, smoke and pollutants. Have you ever noticed that the air has the spark of freshness to it after a lightning storm? That’s because the air is overwhelmed with negative ions. The feeling you get when at the beach or standing at the foot of a forest waterfall is due to the invigorating power of oxygen with a higher content of negative ions.
Natural Mood Enhancer
Humans need to consume an estimated 10 cubic meters of fresh air daily for the body to function at its peak. With every inhalation the body takes over and starts to do its job of dispersing the oxygen component to the vital organs and systems. For more than 60 years scientists have been studying the effects of inhaling negative ions to provide positive health benefits. Negative ions have an invigorating effect on the body, while positive ions have the opposite effect, often inducing a feeling of tiredness. The smallest sized negative ion has the greatest effect on the body, producing a calming effect and an increase in defense against infection. An excess of positive ions leads to overproduction of serotonin, which creates hyperactivity leading to exhaustion, anxiety and depression. It is widely accepted that the absence of negative ions in the human environment has an adverse affect on that environment’s living organisms.

Through a recent Japanese technological breakthrough, negative ion therapy is now widely recognized in Japan and Korea as an important component for total wellness.
